Six October University Library (SOUL) in brief

1. Premises:

SOUL Operates as a cultural beacon that supports the curriculum, academic programs, and scientific researches, along with providing services to the local community It occupies an independent building located outside the university campus in Six October City. Its total area ​​is about (9000 m ²), surrounded by green space. The building consists of three levels: ground floor and two upper floors, in addition to the basement. The three floors contain halls to display textbooks, periodicals and references in addition to the public library and the electronic library. Each floor has a large reading area, to accommodate about 100 users each.

• SOUL equipped with 160 computers to cover all its services and activities. It has two labs dealing with the digital material, equipped with 60 computers. All computers connected through SOUL LAN and the Internet.
• One hall equipped with computers dedicated to using multimedia, and e-learning.
• One hall to serve as workshops and delivered lectures.
• 2 halls for seminars and conferences: Each hall accommodates about 100 seats and equipped with the latest educational tools, one of which has the facility to communicate with the outside world through the video conference.
• Two heritage Museums, one for Naguib Mahfouz and another for Tawfik al-Hakim.
• Eight halls for displaying textbooks to serve teachers and students.
• Two halls belonging to the public library, one for youth and the other for adults.
• One hall includes periodicals, scientific dissertations and selected graduate projects.
• One photocopying room presents its services within the limits provided by intellectual property laws runs by a specialized company.
• Seven administrative offices.
• One room for the Department of Information Systems.
• Two library stores in the basement.

3. Collection: The library has (92662) items that serve the SOUL’s users at large.
4. Equipment:

• A complete video conferencing unit is available.
• The number of (18) eighteen video devices and (DVD).
• The number of (18) eighteen television sets.
• Four plasma screens 47 inches.
• Three LED display screens 65 inches.
• Four projector data projectors.
• Two cassettes stereo and DVD players.
• Two smart whiteboards.
• Five large display screens.
• Two receivers for satellite channels.
• The entire library equipped with a central audio system.

5. SOUL Staff:

The total number of employees (28) employees on the work sites.

6. Working Hours:

The library receives visitors from 9 am to 5:30 pm except Fridays and Saturdays.

7. Services:

The library offers a range of services e.g.:

• Search through Online Public Access Catalog that available inside the library and through its website as well.
• Borrowing books outside SOUL.
• Photocopying service.
• Search in the international databases.
• Reference service.
• Identify the needs of the users and realized their satisfaction with the library service.
• The availability of students’ examinations of the previous years.
• Current Awareness services.
• SDI Services
• Halls for study and reading.
• Organizing exhibitions, seminars and conferences.
• Identify complaints of users by personal communication and complaints box.
• Scientific Research and Graduation Projects for researchers and students.
• Provide the latest editions of the textbooks that cover that cover the Faculty needs.
• Public library services, including:
• Borrowing books
• Activities (such as improvement of the Arabic calligraphy, Painting Colors Works, Handicrafts, Languages Computer, improving Human Etiquette t … etc.), and
• Availability of daily newspapers and the preparing of the press archive of the news on higher education and Egyptian governmental and private universities.
